AUSTINTOWN – Marlene Ann Sherfel, 73, passed away Friday, Nov. 27, 2015, at her home.

Marlene was born June 19, 1942, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late John and Ann Sinko Beaudis, and was a 1960 graduate of Chaney High School.

She worked in the offices of WKBN, and retired from the Youngstown Public Library.

Marlene was a beautiful person, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She took care of her husband when he battled cancer, and of her father in his later years. After her husband passed away, she devoted herself to loving and providing the best life she could for her son, John, and spending time with the love of her life, her granddaughter, Ashtyn.

Marlene volunteered her time quilting with The Piecemakers group, and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

She loved to travel and took many enjoyable trips with her two closest cousins, Charlotte and Elaine, and her close group of friends. Marlene was one of the fortunate individuals who shared a lifelong bond with a group of friends she'd known from kindergarten until her death.

Her husband, John K. Sherfel, whom she married July 3, 1974, passed away Feb. 6, 1993.

Marlene leaves her son, John Matthew (Jessica) Sherfel of Nicholasville, Ky.; her sister, Alice (John) Senzarino of Austintown; two nieces, Kelly Senzarino-Kulick (husband Alec Kulick) and Amy Senzarino DeCenso (husband Bob DeCenso), each of Uniontown; two grandchildren, Ashtyn Sherfel, and the newest addition to the Sherfel family, Ember; two great-nephews, Samuel Kulick and Vincent DeCenso; a great-niece, Gia DeCenso; and many friends and extended family members.

Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 4, at Zion Lutheran Church, 3300 Canfield Road, Youngstown, where funeral services will take place at 1 p.m.

Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown, where Marlene will be laid to rest next to her husband.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.

Marlene's family would like to thank the staff and residents at Victoria House for the kindness shown to Marlene during her stay.
