DECATUR, GA. - Mark Alan Powell, 58, formerly of Warren, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at his home in Georgia.
Mark was born June 28, 1957, in Warren, a son of David P. and Nadine King Powell, and lived in this area until moving to Georgia 30 years ago.
Mark was a 1975 Warren G. Harding High School graduate and earned a B.S. degree in mathematical science from The Ohio State University. He subsequently earned a masters degree from Georgia State University.
He was a programmer for the Justice Systems Division of Fulton County in Georgia, retiring in December of 2013.
Mark was a life member of the U.S. Chess Federation, and he was currently studying the German language.
Mark leaves his father, David, of Warren; four brothers, David K. (Pat) Powell of Newport, Ore., James (Barbara) Powell of Lebanon, Ohio, Jeffrey L. (Marcia) Powell of Youngstown, and Scott (Regina) Powell of Powell; a sister, Susan (Richard) Watkins of Salem; and several nieces and nephews.
Mark's mother, Nadine, preceded him in death.
Family and friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 23, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where funeral services will take place at 1 p.m.
Committal services will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
