IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maria
Maiorana
November 14, 1941 – August 15, 2024
GIRARD - Maria Maiorana, 82, passed away early Thursday morning, August 15, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital with her family by her side.
Maria was born November 14, 1941, in the picturesque town of Randazzo, Sicily, the daughter of the late Angelo LoCastro and Carmela BonGiovanni LoCastro. In 1960, she embarked on a new chapter of life, moving to the United States and settling in the Brier Hill neighborhood of Youngstown with her beloved husband.
Maria was a skilled seamstress, dedicating 27 years to the alterations department at J.C. Penney Department Store in Niles before her well-earned retirement. Her talents were not confined to the workplace; she was known for her ability to create and mend clothing with unmatched precision and care.
A member of St. Rose Church, Maria found joy in her faith and community. But her greatest joy came from her family. She delighted in gathering her loved ones for Sunday dinners and holiday feasts, where her homemade bread and sauce were the highlights of every meal. Maria's kitchen was a place of warmth and love, where traditions were passed down and memories were made.
Maria also cherished her time in Naples, Florida, where she spent her winters enjoying the company of her husband and friends. She had a passion for shopping, creating beautiful clothes, and traveling to visit family, both near and far.
Maria leaves to forever cherish her memory her son, Nicholas Maiorana of Poland; two daughters, Carmel (Anthony) Vivacqua of Boardman and Kathy (Duane) Brewer of Charlotte, N. Carolina; four grandchildren, Salvatore (Jessica) Maiorana, Maria (Dean) Maiorana-Moore, Anthony Vivacqua, and Nicholas Vivacqua; three great-grandchildren, Alessandra Moore, Deana Moore and Lorenzo Maiorana; two brothers, Armando (Nerina) LoCastro of Girard and Antonio (Franca) LoCastro of Malvagna, Sicily; her sister in law, Maria Santa of Perth, Australia; a brother-in-law, Antonino (Vincenza) Maiorana of Girard, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Her husband of 62 years, Gaetano "Guy" Maiorana, whom she married July 30, 1959, passed away June 23, 2020.
Her daughter-in-law, Linda Facchini Maiorana and a brother, Giovanni LoCastro also preceded Maria in death.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Kinnick Funeral Home 222 S. State St. Girard.
