Margaret Shuger

YOUNGSTOWN - Margaret Shuger, 75, of Youngstown’s west side, passed away peacefully Monday morning, May 19, 2026, at Hospice House.

Margaret was born Nov. 1, 1950, in Neu Kirchen, Austria, a daughter of the late Johann Thomas and Katharina Eisner Thome, and came to the United States and the Youngstown area as a child.

She was a graduate of North High School and dedicated much of her life to raising and caring for her family. Marge also worked outside the home for the Youngstown City School District and at the boathouse at Lake Glacier in Mill Creek MetroParks.

Marge loved the outdoors and took great pride in tending to her flowers. She enjoyed caring for her cats and, most of all, treasured the time she spent with her family.

She leaves to forever cherish her memory her daughter, Tracy Hopkins of Girard; her son, Andrew Shuger of Campbell; four grandchildren, Abigail (Andre), James, Madison, and Autumn; three great-grandchildren, Amiya, Amari and Amina; her sister, Sofia Pusztai of Brunswick and many extended family members.

Her husband of 43 years, Paul J. “Sonny” Shuger, whom she married March 6, 1976, died June 5, 2019.

In addition to her parents and husband, Marge was preceded in death by a sister, Katharina Reschner; and a brother, John Thomae.

Private services were held for the family Friday, May 22, 2026, at Girard Liberty Union Cemetery, where Marge was laid to rest beside her beloved Sonny.

In lieu of flowers, Marge’s family suggests memorial contributions be made to Animal Charities of Ohio, 8469 Southern Blvd. Building 3, Youngstown, Ohio 44514.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.
