John J. Gnip, 91, passed away peacefully, Sunday evening, October 6, 2024, in the comfort of his home with is family by his side.
John was born June 7, 1933, in Campbell, a son of the late Michael and Mary Gnip and was a lifelong area resident. He worked for 20 years as a truck driver for JB Winkle and later at Alumo Garage Door Company. In the latter part of his career, John found fulfillment working in the office at Help Hotline, before retiring.
He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish St. Matthias Church. In his leisure time, he was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed reading mystery novels, playing poker, spending time on the golf course and spending time with family and friends especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his five daughters, Karen (Jeff) Fullerman of Twinsburg, Joyce Gnip with whom he shared his home, Janice Gnip of Gaffney, SC., Susan (Ron) Strom of Inman, SC., and Patricia (Bill) Thompson of Boardman; six grandchildren, Greg (Aliesha) Fullerman, Stephanie Juarez, Lindsay Fullerman, Lauren Fullerman, Stephen Strom (Jessica Brightwell) and Matthew Thompson; three great-grandchildren, Allie Fullerman, Lena Fullerman and Jaxton Juarez; nieces, Barb Candio and Rosemary Hayman and best friends of over 60 years, who were more like family, Louise (the late Tom) Crump.
His wife of 51 years, Mary Soroka Gnip whom he married November 10, 1957, died August 5, 2009.
A brother, Andrew Gnip also preceded John in death.
A Celebration of Life Service will be announced in Spring of 2025.
John's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to nurses Cammie and Jackie from Akeso Hospice for their compassionate care during his final days.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.
