CANFIELD - John S. Dobrindt, 83, formerly of Austintown, passed away Tuesday evening, March 28, 2023, at his home surrounded by family and friends.
John was born December 4, 1939, in Youngstown, a son of the late John S. Dobrindt Sr., and Edith McClay Dobrindt, and was a lifelong area resident.
He attended St. Brendan School and was a 1959 graduate of Chaney High School.
John worked for General Motors Lordstown for 40 years, retiring in 2006 from the vinyl repair department.
In his younger days, John owned and operated Doby's Shoe Repair in Boardman and also worked at John's Shoe Repair in Youngstown.
Mr. Dobrindt was a member of St. Brendan Church.
He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Louie.
John and his wife, Mary, established the Brett Wilcox Benefit Golf Outing, which was a 501C3 charitable organization that held golf outings at Lakeside Golf Course to benefit children battling childhood cancer.
John leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 61 years, Mary E. Colgan Dobrindt, whom he married August 19, 1961; four children, Kenneth J. (Marcie) Dobrindt of Lexington, SC., John S. (Jackie) Dobrindt Jr., of Boardman, Susan Dobrindt of Canfield and Sharon L. (Don) Wilcox of Austintown; three grandchildren, Stephanie N. (Dana) Dobrindt, Robert Colgan Knox and Brett Wilcox; three great grandchildren, Ava Elizabeth Dobrindt, Austin Adams and Jaxson Adams; a step brother, Tim Duble of Leetonia; two step sisters, Lois (Bill) Kirwin of Rosemead, CA., and Carol (Jack) Dale of Oklahoma City, OK., and many nieces and nephews and extended family members.
John will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A brother, Eugene Dobrindt, two sisters, Pat Waller and Darlene Havrila, two step sisters, Pat Waitley and Theresa O'Mallen and a half brother, Vincent Dobrindt preceded John in death.
Family and friends may gather to pay respects from 9 to 9:50 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at St. Brendan Church 2800 Oakwood Ave., Youngstown, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.
