YOUNGSTOWN - Joan V. Babinchak, 87, passed away peacefully Monday morning, April 13, 2026, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by the love of her family.
Joan was born Oct. 9, 1938, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Joseph and Kathryn (Kitt) Pappagallo, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a 1956 graduate of Chaney High School and worked for Ohio Bell for 30 years prior to her retirement.
Joan was a faithful member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Ladies Guild. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Joan found great joy in baking cookies for her great-grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as “Cookie Nana.” She especially cherished Sunday dinners with her family, creating lasting memories around the table.
Joan is survived by her son, George (Leslie) Babinchak of Austintown; her grandchildren, Robby (Jenn) Babinchak of Howland, Amanda (Amanda) Babinchak of Tennessee and Katie Pearson of Wadsworth; her step-grandchildren, Eric (Jada) Landgraver, Brian (Heather) Landgraver and Jaime Landgraver; many beloved great-grandchildren; her son-in-law, Mike Landgraver; and her brothers, Andrew (Sandy) Pappagallo and Frank (Ruth) Zone.
Her husband of 56 years, George R. Babinchak Sr., whom she married June 20, 1959, passed away Nov. 6, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Landgraver; her brothers, Anthony Pappagallo, Joseph Pappagallo and Carmen Zone; and her sister, Nancy Breznai.
Family and friends may gather to pay their respects from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2026, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1429 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, where a funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, Joan's family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley 979 Tibbetts Wick Road Suite A, Girard, Ohio 44420.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.
