YOUNGSTOWN — Jerome Patrick Sunderland, 86, formerly of Burghill, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.
Jerome was born Dec. 24, 1938, in Williamsfield, a son of the late Ray and Louise Smith Sunderland, and was raised in Williamsfield.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army and completed two tours of duty. He was later a member of the Air Force Reserve.
Mr. Sunderland worked for Copperweld Steel in Warren. He also attended meat cutter school in Toledo and spent time working on his grandfather's farm.
A gentle and generous man, Jerome had a deep love for gardening, animals and nature. He was known for his kind spirit and willingness to help others, always offering whatever he had to those in need.
He is survived by his two daughters, Angela Smith-Danko of Warren and Heather (Robert) Best of North Royalton; a brother, Darryl Sunderland of Bristolville; and a sister, Rae.
In addition to his parents, Jerome was preceded in death by a sister, Madeline, and two brothers, Everest and Ron.
Family and friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where a funeral service will follow at 1 p.m.
Interment will take place at Kinsman Cemetery where Jerome will be laid to rest with family members.
