YOUNGSTOWN - Jannette L. Grein, 81, of the city's west side, passed away early Sunday afternoon, Dec. 13, 2015, at ValleyCare Northside Medical Center, following a brief illness.
Jannette was born Nov. 19, 1934, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Carl and Edith Goodman, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a 1952 graduate of North High School and was a cook in the Youngstown City School System for 26 years, retiring in 1998.
Mrs. Grein was a member of St. Brendan Church in Youngstown. She was a member of the church's Altar & Rosary Society, and had been one the organizers of the parish's former annual festivals.
She enjoyed bingo and collecting and using coupons. Jannette loved spending time with family and friends, and will always be remembered for her Christmas cookies and hardtack candy.
Her husband, George E. Grein, whom she married Aug. 20, 1955, passed away March 11, 2003.
Jannette leaves three sons, George (Lucille) Grein of Austintown, Carl (Maria) Grein of York, South Carolina, and Mark (Sherry) Grein of Austintown; two grandchildren, Josh (Sarah) Grein and Melissa (John) Ferguson; and three great-grandchildren, Lucas, Brooklin, and Kolton.
Family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 17, at St. Brendan Church, 2800 Oakwood Avenue, Youngstown, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Jannette will be laid to rest next to her husband.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jannette's name to the St. Brendan Church Memorial Fund.
