CANFIELD - Helen "Sally" Chermely, 88, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, Feb. 22, 2019, at her home.
Helen was born Oct. 23, 1930, in Youngstown, and was the daughter of the late Stephen and Maria Dovica Kovach.
She graduated from Chaney High School in 1948 and worked for Land Title, Ohio Title, and Commonwealth Land Title companies.
Helen was a lifelong member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Youngstown, where she married Stanley P. Chermely on June 25, 1960. She served as a Federation Delegate for the SNPJ.
Mrs. Chermely enjoyed sitting outdoors, cutting her lawn, and she loved children and animals, reading, crossword puzzles, sudoku, and spider solitaire.
Helen leaves her husband of 58 years, Stanley; her daughter and son-in-law, Atty. Diane L. Chermely Tanner and Joseph Tanner of Salem; a sister, Pauline Farmer of Boardman; seven nieces and nephews; six great-nieces and great-nephews; and five great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Brothers Steve Kovac and John Kovach, and sisters Mary Dezort, Susan Marvich, Mildred Kovach, and Margaret "Julia" Hruska preceded Helen in death.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 25, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
Family and friends may also call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 26, at St. John Lutheran Church, 1429 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, where funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m.
Interment will follow at Tod Homestead Cemetery in Youngstown.
