YOUNGSTOWN - Harold E. Hoover, 76, of the city's west side, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, September 21, 2024, at Humility House.
Harold was born April 24, 1948, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Harry and Violet Nicholson Hoover He attended Carlisle High School and came to the Youngstown area in the early 1970's. Harold worked for McGillis Construction in Kinsman for over 10 years before he retired.
Affectionately known as "Mr. Harold" by family and friends, he found joy in the outdoors, especially fishing and camping. A devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Harold also enjoyed watching old westerns and had a deep passion for history, with a particular interest in Gettysburg. However, nothing was more precious to him than the time he spent with his family.
Harold is survived by his wife of 40 years, Alice L. McNeely Hoover, whom he married January 18, 1984; his siblings, Phyllis (Charles) Holloway, Harriet (Jerry) Durham, Paul (Michele Devore) Hoover, Alechia Jenkins, all of Carlisle, and Alvin (Diane) Hoover of Glen Burnie, MD; two brothers-in-law, Clarence (Patty) McNeely of Fowler and Eddie McNeely of Youngstown; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Jesse Hoover, his brother Bobby Adams, and his sister Shelby Adams.
Harold's life was filled with the love of family, friends, and cherished moments outdoors. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Kinnick Funeral Home 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, where a funeral service will be held at 6 p.m.
Private interment will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Austintown.
