MANTUA - George A. Schimpf Jr., 61, formerly of Liberty Township, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 21, 2018, at Select Specialty Hospital in Akron following an extended illness.
George was born Jan. 29, 1957, in Youngstown, a son of the late George A. Sr. and Gladys Shaffel Schimpf. He was a 1975 graduate of Girard High School, and later was a graduate of the New Castle School of Trades.
Mr. Schimpf completed peace officer training classes in 1986, and served as a police officer for the Hartford Township Police Department for over 20 years. He was also a school bus driver for various school districts, and eventually became a full-time bus driver and custodian for the Liberty Schools, until he retired on disability in 2010.
George was a true family man and a proud grandpa. A practical joker, he enjoyed playful interaction with his family and friends.
He was a member of Churchill United Methodist Church in Liberty Township.
George leaves his wife of 38 years, Pamela L. Netzel Schimpf, whom he married Sept. 15, 1979; a daughter, Brittany (Brian) Orzechowski of Mantua; a grandson, Jonah; a godson, Jason Taylor; a brother, Gary (Bridget) Schimpf of Girard; a son-in-law, Michael R. Burkett of Youngstown; a sister-in-law, Donna (Dale) Sweitzer; a brother-in-law, Jon (Jessie) Netzel; and many nieces and nephews, including godson, Gary Schimpf, Jr.
A beloved daughter, Tiffany Lynn Burkett; a sister-in-law, Angela Paris; and two godsons, Kenny Moore and Jeremy Taylor, are deceased.
Family and friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, March 25, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown. Family and friends may also call from 11 a.m., til noon, Monday, March 26, at Churchill United Methodist Church, 189 Churchill-Hubbard Road, where funeral services will take place at noon.
Interment will follow the church service, and will be at Tod Homestead Cemetery in Youngstown.
