IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frank A.
Hankey
January 4, 1935 – October 4, 2025
BOARDMAN — Frank A. "Frankie" Hankey, 90, passed away Saturday afternoon, Oct. 4, 2025, at Greenbrier Healthcare Center.
Frank Albert Hankey was born Jan. 4, 1935, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Frank Robert Hankey and Francine Kendzer Hankey. He was lovingly raised by his grandmother, Bertha Hankey, in Malone, New York, who nurtured his curiosity, independence, and lifelong love of learning.
Frankie was a proud scholar who held two doctorate degrees and spent his career sharing his knowledge with others. He began teaching at the University of South Florida in Gainesville and later continued his academic work at Youngstown State University. He was deeply devoted to his students and took great pride in helping others learn and grow.
A man with a love for the unusual and a deep affection for animals, Frankie also had many personal passions. He was an avid camera collector and a dedicated genealogist who meticulously documented the Hankey family's history through photographs and hundreds of pages of research and notes — a remarkable legacy that preserved generations of stories and connections.
Frank is survived by his two half sisters, Antonia (Craig) Gross of Oldsmar, Florida, and Iona Jones of Midlothian, Virginia.
Per his wishes, there are no calling hours or services.
Private interment will take place at Tod Homestead Cemetery in Youngstown.
