GIRARD - Frank N. Deramo, 97, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, Feb. 23, 2016, at his home with his family by his side, following a long and fulfilling life.
Frank was born June 5, 1918, in Mineral Ridge, a son of the late Donato and Constance DePiero Deramo, and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a 1936 graduate of Girard High School and proudly served during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Frank worked for General Fireproofing for 15 years and later was a co-owner of Three Point Tavern on Belmont Avenue. He also co-owned The Lincoln Park Tavern on Youngstown's east side, and subsequently worked for the Girard City Schools in the maintenance department before he retired.
Mr. Deramo was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Youngstown, and was also a member of the Bugnarese Club, where served as secretary.
Active in local sports for much of his life, Frank was the manager of the C. Roy Taylor Insurance Little League baseball team that won a championship in 1958. He was the official scorekeeper of the Girard Men's Slow Pitch Softball League, was an avid golfer, and was the founder of the North Hills Golf League at the Mahoning Country Club. Frank was also an avid bowler, and bowled in the G.F. Bowling League and in leagues at Kay Lanes.
His wife of 65 years, Lucille Taormina Deramo, whom he married March 23, 1945, passed away Dec. 14, 2010.
Frank is survived by his daughter, Connie Deramo of Girard; his son, Daniel (Joan) Deramo of Brookfield; five grandchildren, Chris Watts, Erin (Charlie) Mazzella, Elise (Adam) Stredney, Regina (Rob) Lucente, and Mark Deramo; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley Mazzella, Nichol (Anthony) Lucas, Tim Mazzella, Zachary Mazzella, Nikolas Mazzella, Addison Stredney, and Carter Stredney; a great-great-grandchild, Peyton Lucas; three sisters-in-law, Eleanor DiLullo, Barbara Scimeca, and Janet Taormina; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, a sister, Mary Thomas, and a brother, Felix Deramo, preceded him in death.
Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 26, at St. Rose Church in Girard, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Frank's nephew, Rev. Raymond J. Thomas.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home, McClurkin Memorial Chapel, in Girard.
