Obituary

NILES - Eva Kowal, 94, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, May 18, 2019, at her home with family by her side, including her beloved cat, Mishka.

Eva was born Aug. 12, 1924, in Ukraine, and was a daughter of the late Gregory and Anna Tymciw. She came to America in 1949 as a young woman and to Niles in 1951.

She was a beloved and loving wife, "mama" and "baba," who dedicated her adult life to raising and caring for her family.

Mrs. Kowal was a member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Youngstown, where she worked at the parish's pyrohy fundraiser, and she was a member of the St. Anne Guild.

Eva leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Gregory Kowal of Youngstown and John Kowal of Niles; her daughter, Anna (Robert) Barker of Liberty Township; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Her husband, Nick Kowal, whom she married in 1945, passed away June 22, 1997. A brother; eight sisters; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson, also preceded Eva in death.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 21, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 222 S. State St., in Girard.

Funeral services will begin at 10:15 a.m., Wednesday, May 22, at the funeral home, and will continue at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, on West Rayen Avenue in Youngstown.

Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Eva will be laid to rest next to her husband.
