GIRARD - Esther Catherine Bogatay, 92, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Armstrong Memory Care in Warren.
Esther was born Feb. 27, 1934, in Mineral Ridge, a daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (Saar) Brandenstein.
She was a graduate of Girard High School and a member of St. Rose Church in Girard.
Her greatest joys in life were trips to Myrtle Beach, bus trips to various casinos, working puzzles, reading, bowling and playing bocce. Along with her husband, John “Boggie,” she was a member of the Model T Ford Club of Youngstown and SNPJ Lodge 643. Esther also volunteered her time working bingo and assisting with counting collections at St. Rose Church.
Esther leaves to cherish her memory her children, Jim (Vickie) Bogatay, Janet (Tom) Frew, Jean Faiola (Scott Dunn) and Judy (Jay) Cunningham; her grandchildren, Josh (Leah) Cunningham, Stephen Cunningham, Stacy (Matt) Schreckenberger, Brian Faiola, Katie Faiola, Brooke (Chris) Downs, Christopher (Stephanie) Mitchke, and Scott (Jorrie) Bogatay; six great-grandchildren; her brother, Jerry Brandenstein; and many extended family members and friends.
Her husband of 43 years, John “Boggie” Bogatay, whom she married Sept. 22, 1956, passed away March 11, 2000.
In addition to her parents and husband, Esther was preceded in death by five siblings and their spouses.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2026, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 222 S. State St., Girard. Prayers will be offered at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Rose Church, 48 E. Main St., Girard.
Interment will follow at Churchill Cemetery where Esther will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
Esther’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the compassionate nurses, aides and staff at Liberty Arms Assisted Living, Armstrong Memory Care and Akeso Hospice for their kindness, care, love and support.
