YOUNGSTOWN - Erin Ann Carney-Chizmar, 67, of Youngstown's west side, passed away Tuesday morning, May 20, 2025, at her daughter's home, surrounded by family, following a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Erin was born May 3, 1958, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late William D. and Therese Whalen Carney, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a 1976 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School and worked as a pharmacy technician for various local medical facilities, including Sharon Regional Hospital.
She was a member of St. Blaise Parish, St. Joseph Church in Austintown and enjoyed gardening, baking, and spending time at the beach. Above all, Erin cherished time with her grandchildren.
Erin is survived by her six children, Justin (Stephanie) Burgy of Austintown, Jacob Burgy of Newton Falls, Kelly (Aaron) Tate of Austintown, Hannah Chizmar of Youngstown, Geniene (Thomas) Hankey of Youngstown, and Thomas (Ryan) Chizmar of Parma Heights; nine grandchildren, Anson Hankey, Dominic Martucci, Aidan Hankey, Caleb Daugherty, Scarlet Burgy, Camren Daugherty, Christian Burgy, Greyson Burgy and Julian Tate.
Erin also leaves her siblings, Mary Pat Gilboy of Youngstown, William (Mary) Carney of Poland, and Barbara Carney of Mesa, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Michelle Carney of Cleveland; and many extended family members.
Her husband of 28 years, Thomas J. Chizmar, whom she married Oct. 16, 1993, died March 17, 2022.
In addition to her husband and parents, Erin was preceded in death by a son, Joshua Burgy, and a brother, Terry Carney.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Kinnick Funeral Home 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
Funeral services will begin at 10:15 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2025, at the funeral home and continue with a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church 4545 New Rd., Austintown.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
