YOUNGSTOWN - Eleanor L. Valentz, 91, of the city's west side, passed away early Monday morning, Jan. 11, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Eleanor was born July 20, 1924, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Surgota Baytos, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a graduate of Chaney High School, and in her younger years worked for General Electric at the Mazda Lamp Plant before dedicating the remainder of her life to raising and caring for her family.
Eleanor was a member of St. Joseph Church in Austintown. She loved cooking and baking.
Mrs. Valentz leaves three sons, Dr. Robert F. (Karen) Valentz of Anchorage, Alaska, Gary J. (Debra) Valentz of Auburn Hills, Mich., and Dr. Thomas M. Valentz of Youngstown; two granddaughters, Amanda and Emily; and two great-grandchildren, Alex and Isabella.
Eleanor's husband of 61 years, Frank Valentz, whom she married Dec. 2, 1950, passed away Jan. 22, 2012. A son, David P. Valentz, and five sisters, Mary Welcomer Volovar, Helen Baytos, Josephine Bartos, Anne Smolko, and Margaret Baytos, are also deceased.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m., Friday, Jan. 15, at the funeral home, and will continue at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, 4545 New Rd., Austintown.
Committal services will take place at All Souls Cemetery in Cortland, where Eleanor will be laid to rest next to her husband.
