Obituary

COLUMBUS - It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Eleanor (Hrynko) Makara. Eleanor passed away peacefully Friday, February 16, 2024, at the age of 95 at Bickford of Bexley Assisted Living & Memory Care in Columbus, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that will forever be cherished by those who knew her.

Eleanor was born January 17, 1929, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Wasyl "Charles" and Eva (Szuszereba) Hrynko and was a lifelong area resident. She was a graduate of South High School and worked at Ohio Bell, retiring in 1983 after 30 years of service.

She married John M. Makara August 4, 1951, together they raised three children and celebrated 53 years of marriage until John's passing on April 24, 2004.

Eleanor resided in Boardman for many years and was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church.

She will always be remembered for her loving, caring and kind nature and the sweetness of her laugh. Listening to opera and classical music gave her great joy as did feeding the birds that gathered around her home, which was one of her favorite daily pastimes.

Eleanor leaves to forever cherish her memory her three daughters, Jill (Don) Hill of Poland, Joyce (John) Touris of Columbus and Jennifer DeCapita of Boardman; two grandsons, Tom (Julie) Touris of Columbus and Alec (Jessica) Touris of Winter Park, Florida; four step-grandchildren Jayson, Kimberly, Justin and Rachel Hill and their children; a sister, Pauline of Austintown, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Throughout her life, Eleanor touched the lives of many with her generosity, grace, and unwavering love. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who were blessed to have known her. Though she may be gone, her spirit will continue to shine brightly through the memories and love she shared with all who knew her.
