Obituary

AUSTINTOWN – Edward H. "Ed" Kubik, 78, passed away Friday afternoon, January 31, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, following a brief illness.

Edward was born September 3, 1946, in Youngstown, a son of the late Joseph and Agnes Egley Kubik. A lifelong resident of the area, Ed graduated from Chaney High School in 1965. He worked for 32 years at General Motors Lordstown, retiring in 1997, where his dedication and strong work ethic were admired by colleagues and friends.

Ed was a man of many passions, including his deep love for cars. He enjoyed working on cars, attending NASCAR races, and cruising in his cherished 1967 Cutlass convertible. His passion for sports was equally vibrant; he loved bowling and was a loyal fan of both the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Pittsburgh Steelers. When not watching a game, Ed could often be found tinkering in his garage, splitting firewood, or enjoying a cold beer.

Family was at the heart of Ed's life. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who raised his three grandchildren with unwavering love and support, alongside his sister-in-law Karen. His kindness and generosity extended to everyone he met—if you crossed paths with Ed, you were instantly his friend. Even in his final days, his resilient spirit remained evident, as he continued to "try to start the engine."

He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown. He was also deeply involved in the community as a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3298, where he and his brother Rick were honored as Eagles of the Year in 2018.

Ed is survived by his two sons, Edward M. (Philomena) Kubik of McDonald and David J. Kubik of Akron; three grandchildren, whom he raised, Tyler J. Surrena, Taylor Leigh Kubik, and Trevor M. Kubik; a great-granddaughter, Everlynn; two brothers, James "Jim" Kubik of Meritt Island, Florida and Rick (Maraline) Kubik of Canfield; two sisters, Donna (Randy) Boye of Canfield and Diane (Glen) Piper of Canfield; his sister-in-law, Karen Treharn of Austintown; his brother-in-law, Richard (Kathy) Stash of Boardman and many extended family members and countless friends.

His wife of 50 years, Linda Lou Stash Kubik, whom he married July 20, 1968, died March 14, 2019.

His daughter, Misty Ann Kubik Green; a brother, Joseph "Sonny" Kubik and a sister-in-law, Joan Kubik also preceded Ed in death.

Edward's life was defined by kindness, hard work, and a love for family and friends. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.

Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Kinnick Funeral Home 477 N.
