YOUNGSTOWN - Dorothy Ann Snovak, 88, passed away Monday morning, Jan. 11, 2016, at Vista Care Center in Boardman, following a long and fulfilling life.

Dorothy was born Dec. 22, 1927, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Elias and Mary Wetek, and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a 1946 graduate of East High School, and became a homemaker who dedicated her adult life to raising and caring for her family.

Mrs. Snovak was a civic-minded woman and was an active member of the League of Women Voters. She was a 7th Ward precinct committee person for 35 years, stepping down in 2013, and she was a member of the 7th Ward Citizens' Coalition since 1996, where she served as a board member and president for two years. In the late-1990s, Dorothy helped start the Brownlee Woods Block Watch, and she currently was a member of the Brownlee Woods Neighborhood Association.

Dorothy was also a creative person who took art classes at the Butler Institute of American Art, and she enjoyed painting. She also was an active member of the Mahoning County Woodcarvers Group.

Mrs. Snovak was a member of the former St. Elizabeth Church in Campbell.

Dorothy's husband of 64 years, Michael A. Snovak, whom she married May 5, 1951, passed away July 7, 2015.

She leaves her son, Michael J. (Tashina) Snovak of Evergreen, Colo; and several nieces and nephews, including Dorothy Flak of Boardman.

Besides her husband, a brother, John Wetek, and three sisters, Ann Mischkulnig, Mary Wielunski, and Sophie Buriak, are deceased.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 North Meridian Road, Youngstown.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 15, at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Youngstown, where Dorothy will be laid to rest next to her husband.
