AUSTINTOWN - Dorothy T. Ryznar, 95, a resident of Humility House in Austintown and formerly of West Heights Avenue in Youngstown, passed away peacefully Friday morning, April 10, 2020, at Hospice House, after a brief illness.
Dorothy was born Dec. 19, 1924, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa Hvizdos Tobias, was a 1943 graduate of Chaney High School and a lifelong area resident.
In her younger years, Dorothy worked in the payroll department of the former Moyer Pants Factory for several years. She later became a wife, mother, and homemaker, and dedicated her life to raising and caring for her family.
Mrs. Ryznar was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Holy Name of Jesus Church in Youngstown, where she was a member of its Altar & Rosary Society, a 40-year member of the church choir, and a volunteer worker at the parish bingo games. She was also a member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Union Branch No. 169.
Dorothy enjoyed watching baseball and football, especially the Cleveland Indians, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and the Ursuline High School Fighting Irish. She also enjoyed polka music, playing bingo, and spending "quality time" with her family and friends.
She leaves two sons, Matthew Ryznar, of Warren and Richard (ReRe) Ryznar of Hilliard; a daughter, Jean (Ray) Morello of McDonald; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Mathew T. Ryznar, whom she married July 17, 1948, died April 3, 2004. A daughter-in-law, Carole Ryznar; four brothers, John, Michael, Frank and infant Joseph Tobias; and eight sisters, Mary Grubiss, Helen Janosov, Ann Crish, Betty Mentzer, Katherine Jubak, Frances Tobias, Sophie Ferenczy, and infant Pauline Tobias, are also deceased.
A private committal service will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.
A public memorial service will take place at Holy Name of Jesus Church at a later date.
