David E. Coates

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — David E. Coates, 64, passed away Monday, June 1, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

David was born March 10, 1962, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Roberta (Evans) Coates and James Coates. He attended Shenango High School and spent most of his life in New Castle. A few years ago, as his health declined, he moved to Youngstown to be closer to his family.

He attended the New Castle School of Trades, where he learned the trade of welding. David worked as a welder for more than 30 years, employed by Western Pennsylvania Steel Fabricating Inc., T. Bruce Industrial and R.L. Best.

David enjoyed playing Candy Crush and was known among his family as something of a Candy Crush expert, having advanced through well over 16,000 levels. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.

David leaves to cherish his memory his two daughters, Kylie Coates (Jason) of Youngstown, with whom he made his home, and Deidra (Charlie) Fornataro; his son, David (Autumn) Coates; 11 grandchildren, Taylor, Leigha, Carter, Rayleigh, Anthony, Jaxson, Charlie, Brooklyn, Bronx, Brantley and Rosaya; his brother, James Coates; his former wife, Tracie Natale; and many extended family members and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his biological father, Eddie Flickner.

David will be remembered for his love of family, his strength and determination throughout life's challenges, and the many memories he leaves behind for those who knew and loved him.

Per David's request, there will be no calling hours or services.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.
