BOARDMAN — Daniel J. Butchko, 92, passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon, July 14, 2026, at the Inn at Christine Valley, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.

Daniel was born Sept. 22, 1933, in Youngstown, a son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Carach Butchko, and remained a lifelong area resident.

He was a 1951 graduate of North High School and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

Dan dedicated 30 years of service to the United States Postal Service before retiring in 1990. Earlier in his career, he also worked for U.S. Steel, Youngstown Sheet and Tube and McKenzie Muffler.

An avid golfer, Dan was a longtime member of the St. Nick's Men's Golf League. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball and bowling. He was actively involved with the National Association of Letter Carriers, serving as secretary of the local union and editing its newsletter. Dan also faithfully cheered on his favorite Cleveland sports teams and was a devoted fan of the Browns and Indians.

Most of all, Dan treasured the time he spent with his family. He leaves to forever cherish his memory his six children, Diane Butchko of Youngstown, James Butchko of Austintown, Cynthia (Mike) Koran of Chicago, Ill., Frank (Pamela) Butchko of Melbourne, Fla., Daniel (Lisa) Butchko Jr. of Boardman and Charles (Jo) Butchko of Austintown; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; his "adopted sister," Carolyn Horvath of Texas; and many extended family members.

His beloved wife of 63 years, the former Elizabeth "Betty" A. Andrews, whom he married Feb. 28, 1955, passed away Oct. 27, 2018. Daniel was also preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Sivecz and Loretta Angeloff.
