AUSTINTOWN – Clarence E. Hamm, 81, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, Dec. 4, 2015, at Hospice House, with his family at his side.
Clarence, who was known to all simply as "Hamm," was born Aug. 26, 1934, in Perryopolis, Pa., one of nine children born to the late Merwin and Ona Brooks Hamm.
He came to Youngstown in 1955, and then served in the U.S. Army with the 4th Armored Division in Germany, from 1957 to 1959.
Hamm owned and operated an Amoco service station on Youngstown's northside in the late 1950s and early 1960s, and later worked for the Lyden Oil Company, retiring in 1996. During his retirement years, Hamm was a vintage car collector.
He leaves his wife of nearly 60 years, Verna R. Leighty Hamm, whom he married March 17, 1956; three children, Melinda Hamm of Marietta, Ga., Denise Harver of Austintown, and Brian (Roberta) Hamm of Stephens City, Va.; three grandchildren, Kollette (Jorge) Carrasco of Miami, Fla., Eric Harver of Austintown, and Ian Harver of Austintown; two great-grandchildren, Kailenn and Sydney Carrasco; and a sister, Allegra Patterson of Saunderstown, R.I.
Per Hamm's wishes, there will be no services or calling hours.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
