AUSTINTOWN - Carlos L. Godoy, 57, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday morning, June 28, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Carlos was born Dec. 24, 1967, in Elizabeth, N.J., a son of Efrain and Nereida Godoy. He moved to the Youngstown area with his family as a child and was a 1986 graduate of East High School.
Carlos worked at The Ply-Trim Companies for nearly four decades, beginning there during high school and eventually serving as a supervisor. He was known as a hard worker, loyal friend, and a steady presence both on and off the job.
A sports enthusiast, Carlos loved watching all kinds of sports—especially boxing—and was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees, Indianapolis Colts, and Atlanta Hawks. He enjoyed coaching youth football and gave many years of his time to the West Side Patriots, helping to shape young athletes both on the field and in life.
In his free time, Carlos enjoyed music, video games—especially Halo—and collecting guns and watches. He found great joy in spending time with his family and with his beloved dog, Gunner.
Carlos is survived by his wife of nearly 37 years, Dianet Irizarry Godoy, whom he married July 17, 1988; his son, Xavier (Angela) Godoy of Austintown; his daughter, Adriana Godoy of Austintown; and his granddaughter, Zayna, who was the light of his life.
He also leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Nereida Godoy of Youngstown; his brothers, Luis (April) Echevarria of New Jersey and Jose (Gloria B.) Godoy of Austintown; nieces and nephews, Amber (Ryan) Karl, Nicole Echevarria, Ali Echevarria, Nicholas Godoy, Alex Godoy, Xavier Bonzar, Annalisa Echevarria and Harry Echevarria Jr.; great-nieces and great-nephews; and many extended family members.
Carlos shared a close bond with his cousin Carmen (Orlando) Perez, who was like a sister to him, and with her children, Gloria and Annette Perez and Jose Rodriguez. He is also survived by his cousin, Joshua Cardon.
He was preceded in death by his father, Efrain Godoy; his sister, Marisol Godoy; his brothers, Harry Echevarria and Frank Godoy; and his grandparents, Anna and Juan Rodriguez and Nicholas and Delfina Godoy.
