LORDSTOWN - Bruce A. Carothers, 73, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday morning, June 28, 2025, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital, following complications from a stroke with his wife by his side.

Bruce was born Oct. 3, 1951, in Youngstown, a son of Bernard Carothers Sr. and Adah Shira Carothers, and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from East High School in 1969 and later earned an associate degree in business administration and accounting.

On Aug. 13, 1977, he married the love of his life, Sherry Luckage, and together they shared nearly 48 years of marriage.

Bruce began his career at Dollar Savings and Trust Bank, but soon realized the corporate world wasn't what he wanted. Bruce found his calling in construction, working for several local companies before establishing his own business.

Bruce and Sherry began their married life in Niles, where Bruce began his construction work. During that time, they also managed the McKinley Motel and the Villa Arms Motel for approximately 10 years.

After moving to Lordstown, Bruce started his own business, the Carothers Construction Company. He also became a volunteer firefighter with the Lordstown Fire Department, a role he held for many years and truly loved.

Bruce always loved participating in sports and was an excellent baseball player, even continuing to play in his 30's.

Bruce was a very skilled hunter and loved the outdoors. He always looked forward to his many hunting trips and especially those with his two brothers.

He and Sherry enjoyed spending time together, going out to eat, traveling to the mountains, attending Corvette club events, and traveling to National Corvette Conventions across the country. Bruce's pride and joy was his 1964 Corvette Coupe, which he frequently showed and raced. The couple were longtime members of the Mahoning Valley Corvettes, where Bruce served as both president and vice president.

Bruce is survived by his devoted wife, Sherry Luckage Carothers; his brothers, Bernard Carothers Jr. of Cary, N.C., and Donald Carothers of Youngstown; his sisters, Donna Hover of Austintown and Frannie Gomez; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family, including his brothers-in-law, Richard Luckage Jr. of Austintown, Rex (Debra) Luckage of North Jackson, and Eric (Nydia) Luckage of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Dorothy Luckage and Richard Luckage Sr.; his sister-in-law, Ingrid Carothers; and his brothers-in-law, David Hover, Anthony Gomez and Robert Luckage.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.

Family and friends may also call from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2025, at the funeral home where a funeral service will follow at 1 p.m.

Interment will follow at Brunstetter Cemetery in Austintown.
