Obituary

GIRARD - Bridget M. Schimpf, 62, passed away Tuesday evening, August 13, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital following a brief illness.

Bridget was born April 2, 1962, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Martha Marsden Netzel and was a lifelong area resident.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Bridget's greatest joy was found in the care and love she gave to her family. She also served her community for several years as a bus driver with Girard City Schools, bringing smiles to the faces of countless children along the way.

Bridget attended Churchill United Methodist Church, where she found comfort and community. She enjoyed a variety of hobbies that kept her days full of joy. Whether she was playing cards, going to bingo, or fishing, Bridget embraced life with a fun-loving spirit. She was an enthusiastic sports fan, cheering passionately for the Buffalo Bills, New York Yankees, and Ohio State Buckeyes. In her younger years, she shared her love of sports by coaching little league football and soccer, leaving a lasting impact on the young athletes she guided.

Bridget had a creative flair, enjoying the ritual of getting her nails done, especially in her favorite color, green. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she delighted in collecting penguins, lighthouses and angels. Her love of television was evident in her daily devotion to watching the Olympics, her beloved soap operas, The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful , and her fascination with Forensic Files . Bridget had a special bond with her dogs, and her beloved Sweet Pea held a special place in her heart.

Bridget is survived by her three children, Gary (Deidre) Schimpf, Jr., of McDonald, Roy Schimpf (Danielle Cross) of Kentucky and Anna Soltesz and her husband, Joe Soltesz who was like a son to Bridget, of McDonald; her grandchildren, who she raised as her own, Amber Schimpf (Caden Staup) and Joseph Schimpf (Danyelle Pietz); grandchildren, Grady, Sable, Evan, Ethan and Hope; her great-granddaughter, Peyton; her son in law, who was like a son to her, Jonathan Taddei of Girard; a sister, Donna (Dale) Sweitzer of Lynchburg; a brother, Jon (Jessie) Netzel of East Palestine; several nieces and nephews and many extended family members.

Her husband of 45 years, Gary Schimpf Sr., whom she married March 24, 1979, passed away June 6, 2024.

A daughter, Laura Schimpf, a grandson Asher Schimpf , two sisters, Pam Schimpf and Angela Paris, a brother in law, George Schimpf, Jr., a niece, Tiffany Lynn Schimpf Burkett, a cousin, Norma Clauson, and Patricia Schwellinger who was like a mother to Bridget preceded her in death.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2024, at Kinnick Funeral Home 222 S. State St., Girard, where a funeral service will be held at 7 p.m.

Private interment will take place at Tod Homestead Cemetery where Bridget will be laid to rest beside her husband and daughter.
