Obituary

AUSTINTOWN - Betty M. Hawk, 83, passed away peacefully, Wednesday evening, November 29, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.

Betty was born September 5, 1940, in Liberty Township, a daughter of the late Walter and Edna Irene Schuyler Gifford and lived most of her life in the Mahoning Valley.

She was a graduate of Liberty High School and dedicated her adult life to raising five children and caring for her family. Betty also owned and operated a private nursing home in Vienna named the Hawk's Nest for 14 years until she retired in 1997.

Betty was a faithful member of Evergreen Seventh Day Adventist Church and was very involved with many church activities. She was a devout Christian and shared her love and sincere, strong faith in God with others.

Betty will always be remembered for her beautiful smile.

She had a passion for singing and enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading and spending time with her family and friends.

Betty leaves to forever cherish her memory her four children, Yvonne C. (Robert) Meyer of Austintown, Louis (Theresa) Less of Berlin Center, Tricia A. (Joseph) Carrabine of Parma and Stacie Less (Anthony Garono) of Canfield; a step-son, Timothy (Eve) Hawk of Springfield; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ken Gifford, John Gifford and Herbert Gifford; three sisters, Nancy Godspeed, Irene Clark, and Karen Bycroft and many extended family members.

Betty will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Chaney, two brothers, Walter Gifford and Donald Gifford and two sisters, Marianne Gifford and Nellie Harris.

Family and friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at Evergreen Seventh Day Adventist Church 7668 Glenwood Ave., Boardman where a memorial service will take place at 11 a.m.

Betty's family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Shepherd of the Valley in Boardman for the kindness shown and compassionate care given to Betty during her time there.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.
