YOUNGSTOWN - Betty J. Ewanish, 87, passed away peacefully, Monday morning, July 15, 2024, in the comfort of her home.

Betty was born February 10, 1937, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Andrew Maletsky and Mary Krutil Maletsky and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a 1955 graduate of Chaney High School and worked as a teacher's aide with the Youngstown City School System, primarily Kirkmere Elementary School for 25 years.

Mrs. Ewanish was a devoted, lifelong member of Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Youngstown and was also very active with the St. Mary Sisterhood, where she held various offices.

Betty was immensely proud of her Ukrainian heritage and she truly enjoyed dancing with her husband. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, a devoted mother, and a trustworthy friend.

She leaves to forever cherish her memory her son, John Ewanish of Youngstown; a brother, Andrew Maletsky of Struthers; many nieces and nephews and extended family members and many friends.

Her husband of 62 years, Joseph S. Ewanish, whom she married September 3, 1960, died December 21, 2022.

A son, Joseph J. Ewanish Jr., and 12 sisters, Anna Bertilacci, Mary DiRenzo, Katie Tisone, Julia Maletsky, Helen Rice, Rae Skiffey, Sonia Erdell, Stephanie Lipka, Dorothy Tamulonis, Stella Alexander, Pauline Brace and Alice Machingo also preceded Betty in death.

Family and friends may gather to pay respects from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church 1025 N. Belle Vista Ave., Youngstown, where a funeral service will take place at 11 a.m.

Interment will follow at Ss. Peter and Paul Parish Cemetery where Betty will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.

In lieu of flowers, Betty's family suggests memorial contributions be made to Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.
