Obituary

POLAND - Audrey J. Lautner, 94, a long time resident of the city's west side, passed away peacefully, Wednesday morning, August 28, 2024, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by love.

Audrey was born February 7, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, a daughter of the late Fred Boles and Ida Sweeney Boles and came to the Youngstown area as a child.

A proud graduate of Chaney High School, class of 1948, Audrey was known for her leadership and grace as the head majorette of the Chaney Marching Band. Her school spirit and poise were admired by many, and these qualities followed her throughout her life. "Once a Cowboy, always a Cowboy"

Audrey dedicated 20 years of her life working at Walter's Golden Crust Bakery, where she was not just an employee, but a friend to many, spreading joy with her kind smile and warm presence.

Mrs. Lautner was a long time member of St. Brendan Church and was recently honored as the oldest living member of the congregation at the 100th anniversary celebration.

Audrey was also active in her community, being a proud member of the Youngstown Mothers of Twins Club and the Wedgewood Gals Bowling League. She cherished the camaraderie and laughter these groups brought into her life. A lover of fun, Audrey enjoyed her monthly breakfasts, trips to casinos, and playing bingo. She was a passionate fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Indians, cheering for her teams with enthusiasm.

Above all, Audrey was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family, attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events, and making memories that will be cherished for generations.

Audrey is survived by her loving children, Karen Lambert of Youngstown, Carol Myers (Bobby Joe Gessler) of Poland, and Daniel (Kathy) Lautner of Louisville, OH; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her dear sister, Shirley Davis of Deltona, FL; her brother-in-law, Duke (Betty) Lautner of Austintown; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and high school sweetheart, Charles W. Lautner, whom she married on November 22, 1947. They shared 72 wonderful years together before his passing on March 28, 2020.
