IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Antonette P.
Savastano
February 12, 1929 – October 28, 2016
Antonette P. Savastano, 87, passed away Friday morning, Oct. 28, 2016, at Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family.
Antonette was born Feb. 12, 1929, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late John and Lucia La Volpe. Raised on the city's southside, she was known as "Dunie" to her family and friends from Benwood Avenue, and was a lifelong area resident.
Antonette was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, and worked at The Oven, Ma Ma Russo's, and at the Ohio Lottery in the Southern Park Mall. She worked the election polls for the Democratic Party for many years.
"Toni" enjoyed playing bingo, watching game shows, and cheering on the Cleveland Indians. She also enjoyed the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly. Her family spent countless Sundays around her dinner table enjoying her delicious homemade spaghetti sauce and meatballs.
Antonette was an energetic, vibrant woman who was full of life and love. She would talk to anyone she met in a restaurant or grocery store. Even when life became hard for her over the past several years, she pushed herself to get out of the house as much as she could.
She was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish, St. Nicholas Catholic Church, in Struthers, and was a member of the T.O.P.S. Club and the Senior Center in Lowellville.
Antonette leaves her husband of 62 years, Guy D. Savastano Sr., whom she married Dec. 4, 1954; a son, Guy D. Jr. (Kelly) Savastano; five daughters, Ann M. (Chuck) Woloschak, Paula (Bob) Hudock, Andrea Savastano, Jeanna Savastano, and Michelle (Mike) Ianazone; her niece, Christina Buccino, who she loved like a daughter; 12 grandchildren, Chuck (Ashley) Woloschak Jr., Joanna (Matt) Newton, Elena Savastano, David Woloschak, Jennie(Steve) Hood, Nicholas Woloschak, Bobby Hudock, Nina Savastano, Ryan Babb, Isabella, Santino, and Salvatore Ianazone; four great-grandchildren, Dominick and Mila Woloschak, and Evelyn and Elliot Newton; four sisters, Connie, Eleanor, Jenny, and Yolanda; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Nicholas and Carl, and two sisters, Mary and Carmella.
Family and friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 2, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 762 5th St., Struthers, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Antonette's family would like to thank the staff at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center, and the staff of Hospice House for the kindness shown and special care given to Antonette and her family.
Her family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Rd., Poland, OH 44514; or to St. Nicholas Church.
