Anthony J. Zuppo Sr.

GIRARD - Anthony J. Zuppo Sr., 82, passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 8, 2026, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by the love of his family.

Anthony was born Jan. 15, 1943, in Youngstown, a son of the late Anthony and Anna M. Suiro Zuppo, and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a 1961 graduate of Girard High School and went on to pursue a career in law enforcement.

Tony briefly worked at Youngstown Sheet & Tube before beginning his career with the Girard Police Department. Through years of dedicated service, he worked his way through the ranks, attaining the position of detective and later serving as a juvenile officer. He retired in 2003 after many years of commitment to protecting and serving his community.

Tony was a past president of FOP Lodge 52. Outside of his career, he enjoyed visiting the casino, playing pinochle, fishing, camping and spending quiet time sitting on his porch — a place where he was happiest reflecting and visiting with others.

He leaves to forever cherish his memory his three children, Cindy L. (Michael) Saverko of Girard, Anthony J. Zuppo Jr., (Christina) of South Carolina, and Donna M. Stephens of Girard; seven grandchildren, Jami, Kristi, Casey, Tony, Ryan, Donny and Haley; his great-grandson, AJ; his daughter-in-law, Jill Zuppo of Canfield; and many extended family members and friends.

Tony will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

His wife of 60 years, Janet L. Carano Zuppo, whom he married July 22, 1961, died Dec. 25, 2021.

Tony was also preceded in death by three sons, Thomas A. Zuppo, Donald J. Zuppo and Stephen J. Zuppo and two brothers.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of Tony’s life at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026, at the Boy Scout Cabin in Liberty Park.

Tony will be buried beside his beloved Janet at Girard Liberty Union Cemetery at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home in Girard.
