CAMPBELL — Andrew "Andy" J. Lakatos, 79, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.
Andy was born April 2, 1947, in Youngstown, a son of the late Andrew and Irene Puli Lakatos, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Andy worked at Youngstown Steel Door and held various other jobs before beginning a career with Cemex in North Jackson, where he worked for 25 years until his retirement.
Andy was a member of McDonald Baptist Church and a devoted Christian whose faith was an important part of his life. He faithfully participated in the church's homebound ministry and was also a former member of Bethel Assembly of God. Andy enjoyed hunting and fishing, cheering on his favorite sports teams, listening to music and spending time with friends. He especially enjoyed working on and repairing cars and could often be found helping others whenever he could. Known for his friendly personality and willingness to lend a hand, Andy was a friend to many. Above all, he treasured the time he spent with his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Andy leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 47 years, the former Julia Evankovish, whom he married April 22, 1979, at Bethel Assembly; his daughter, Rebecca Lakatos; his son, Andrew K. (Stephanie) Lakatos Jr.; two grandsons, Nicholas and Alexzander Lakatos; and many dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Andy was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Lakatos, a United States Marine Corps veteran.
