Donatiello
June 9, 1927 – October 23, 2021
YOUNGSTOWN - Alfred Donatiello, 94, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, Oct. 23, 2021, at his home following a long and fulfilling life.
Alfred, who was know to all as "Fred" or "Freddy," was born June 9, 1927, in West Virginia. He was a son of the late Raphael Donatiello and Louise Donatiello, and came to the Youngstown area with his family as a child.
Fred proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps and worked for U.S. Steel for 35 years. It was noted that he was the last man to walk out of the Youngstown mill when it closed, and the gates were locked behind him.
After retiring from the mill, he worked for Dale Cleaners and for Rondinelli Cleaners, and he also worked as the janitor at Wickliffe Presbyterian Church in Austintown, where he was a member.
A creative man, Freddy greatly enjoyed craft work, woodworking, and gardening.
Fred leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 62 years, Eleanor Morris Donatiello, whom he married Oct. 24, 1959; two daughters, Mary Ann (Peter) Gross of Youngstown and Darlene Donatiello of Youngstown; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members; his dog, Freda; and three "granddogs," Rusty, Titan, and Thea.
Three brothers, Albert, Angelo, and Enrico Donatiello, preceded Fred in death.
Private services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 28, at Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.
Private interment with military honors will follow the service and will take place at Four Mile Run Cemetery in Austintown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Fred's name to Friends of Fido.
