Ruth Ann Barner Groff

NILES - Ruth Ann Barner Groff, 68, went to meet her Lord, Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, passing at her home from this earthly life.

Ruth Ann was born May 16, 1950, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Bill and Grace Martin Barner, and was a lifelong area resident.

Ruth Ann was a graduate of Girard High School, and after graduation she worked at Packard Electric until 1978. In 1980, Ruth Ann enrolled in Youngstown State University, and graduated cum laude in 1985 with a degree in education.

She taught at Sts. Peter & Paul School in Warren for 10 years, and truly enjoyed her time there. She later taught in Warren City Schools for 19 years, enjoying her classes and students, and especially the teaching staff. Ruth Ann had many wonderful memories teaching in the Warren City School District, and thanks everyone for their support and for making her time there special.

She leaves to cherish her memory a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel J. Groff Jr. and Melissa Groff of Hampton, Va.; two grandchildren, Elliot and Bridget Hulsizer; a sister, Debra Zatvarnicky of Girard; a nephew, David (Amy) Zatvarnicky and the couple’s daughters, Victoria and Brooke, all of Girard; and many dear friends, including Nancy Barson and Barbara Gibowitz.    

Besides her parents, her daughter, Amber Marie Groff Hulsizer, and her brother, Bill Barner Jr., preceded Ruth Ann in death.

Private committal services will take place today, Thursday, Sept. 6, at Girard Union Cemetery, where Ruth Ann will be laid to rest next to her daughter.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home, 222 S. State St., in Girard.
