Phyllis Bolender

BOARDMAN - Phyllis Bolender, 85, passed away peacefully Friday evening, July 7, 2017, at her home with her family by her side.

Phyllis was born Oct. 15, 1931, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Chester and Elizabeth Snyder Thomas, and was a lifelong area resident.

Phyllis was a graduate of South High School, and worked for the Youngstown City Schools in the central kitchen for 26 years, retiring in 2010.

Mrs. Bolender loved playing the lottery and playing bingo. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren.

Her husband of 33 years, Harold “Bud” Bolender, whom she married in June of 1960, passed away in 1993.

Phyllis leaves two children, Chet (Donna) Bolender of Boardman and Liz (Frank) Bernard of Youngstown; three grandchildren, Phillip Bolender (fiancé Missy), Olivia (Brandon) Suverison, and Jayne Bernard; two great-grandchildren, Ian and Makayla, with a third great-grandchild on the way; and her lifelong friend, who was like a sister to her, Kay Commings.

Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 12, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, where funeral services will take place at 1 p.m.

Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Boardman, where Phyllis will be laid to rest next to her husband.

Phyllis’ family thanks Dr. David Kennedy and his staff, and the staff with Cornersburg Family Discount Drugs, and the rehabilitation staff with the Briarfield at Ashley Place, for the kindness shown and care given to Mrs. Bolender.
