Melvin "Bud" Parrish, Jr. Obituary

YOUNGSTOWN - Melvin “Bud” Parrish Jr., 71, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, March 29, 2018, at his residence following a brief illness.

Melvin was born Oct. 11, 1946, in Youngstown, a son of the late Melvin Sr. and Betty Shotts Parrish, and was a 1964 graduate of South High School.

After graduation, Bud worked for Strouss’ Department Store in downtown Youngstown in the receiving department and on the loading dock. In 1966, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was initially stationed at Fort Jackson in South Carolina. He was later stationed in Aberdeen, Maryland, and then at the Karlsruhe Armory in Germany.

After his honorable discharge from the military, Bud returned home to work for U.S. Steel at the Ohio Works, and shortly thereafter began a 30-year career working in maintenance for the Mill Creek Metro Parks. Mr. Parrish also worked for CCS at The Vindicator to stay active on the weekends.

Bud truly enjoyed life, and the time spent with his family.

He leaves two daughters, Nicole Parrish, and her daughter, Alexis, with whom he shared his home, and Jessica Hidey of Youngstown; and three grandchildren, Alexis Anderson, Justin Leedy, and Andrew Parrish. Bud also leaves his house cats, along with the outside stray cats, which he cared for and built a shelter for outdoors.

Per Mr. Parrish’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A private memorial service with military honors will take place at Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.

Memorial contributions may be made in Bud’s name to the local Grace Hospice, 7206 Market St, Youngstown, OH 44512.
