CANFIELD - Madalyn Theresa “Maggie” Luklan, 89, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, Aug. 30, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center, after a long and fulfilling life.
Madalyn, who known to all as “Maggie,” was born May 12, 1929, in Wilkes Barre, Pa., a daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth Byers, and came to this area with her family as a child.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, Maggie worked for many years for the General Electric Company. She was also a hairdresser, a nanny, and had her own cleaning and catering businesses.
Maggie loved cooking and baking and was known for her homemade kohlachi and pierogies. She also loved playing bingo, going to her children and grandchildren’s sporting events, and faithfully watching the Cleveland Cavaliers and Indians.
Mrs. Luklan was a member of St. Columba Cathedral in downtown Youngstown.
Madalyn leaves to cherish her memory her three sons, John (Dawn Amolsch) Luklan of Struthers, Richard (Janice) Luklan of Boardman, and Robert (Sharon) Luklan of Boardman, and her four grandchildren, Theresa, Kalie, Richard, and Nicole Luklan.
Maggie will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Maggie’s husband, John Luklan, whom she married July 6, 1957, passed away Feb. 2, 1978. Besides her husband, three brothers, Wilbert, Andrew, and Thomas Byers; and four sisters, Mary Prest, Irene Kotyuha, Rita Prater, and Pat Bova, are deceased.
Family and friends may gather from 9 to 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 4, at St. Columba Cathedral on the corner of Elm and West Wood Streets in Youngstown, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Maggie will be laid to rest next to her husband.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Madalyn’s name to Angels for Animals, 4570 West South Range Road, Canfield, OH 44406.
