DOVER - Charles B. Zubyk, 93, formerly of Girard, passed away peacefully at Truman House early Tuesday morning, June 26, 2018, in New Philadelphia.
Charles was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Pittsburgh, Pa., a son of the late Charles and Anna Bohan Zubyk.
Mr. Zubyk was a 1943 graduate of Girard High School, and subsequently enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he served on the U.S.S. Suwannee, an escort carrier in the Pacific Theater. A highly-decorated veteran, Charles was honored with the Victory Medal, the American Area Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation with Nine Battle Stars.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he enrolled at Youngstown University, where he received a business administration degree and a Doctor of Law degree.
Mr. Zubyk practiced law in the Mahoning Valley for approximately 20 years, and later became a judge in the Niles Municipal Court System for 12 years.
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Youngstown.
Charles leaves his daughter, Anna Lisa Mansfield Blue of Surprise, Ariz.; a grandson in Arizona; his loving companion of over 19 years, Myrna Cramblett of Dover, who loved and cared for him; two sisters-in-law, Rose Zubyk of Niles and Anna Zubyk of Girard; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Patterson and Anna Zubyk, and by brothers, John and Steve Zubyk.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, July 1, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 North Meridian Road, Youngstown, where a prayer service will take place at 4 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 2, at Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1025 N. Belle Vista Ave., in Youngstown
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
