AUSTINTOWN - John Rapovy, 95, passed away Tuesday morning, Aug. 15, 2017, at his residence following a long and fulfilling life.

John was born Dec. 15, 1921, in Youngstown, a son of the late Frank and Tekla Sorako Rapovy, and was a lifelong area resident.

John proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a steelworker for 30 years for LTV Steel, retiring in 1975.

Mr. Rapovy was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown and was a member of VFW Post No. 4237. He was a fan of the Cleveland Indians, and really looked forward to watching the team’s games daily on television

John leaves a son, David F. Rapovy of Massillon; two daughters, Elaine S. (David) Flower of Youngstown and Linda M. (Ralph) Bevilacqua of Youngstown; four grandchildren, Heather (Danny) Ballejos, Holly Rapovy, Debbie (Bob) Amendolea, and David (Courtney) Flower; nine great-grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler, Parker, Hunter, Seth, Jonathan, Luke, Nathan, and Ella; a brother, Peter Rapovy of Youngstown; a daughter-in-law, Lori Rapovy of Phoenix; and his beloved dog, “Spot.”

His wife, Julia Chingkonish Rapovy, whom he married Sept. 22, 1947, passed away Dec. 10, 2004. Besides his wife, a son, John Rapovy Jr.; a brother, Stephen Rapovy; and two sisters, Ann Loychik and Mary Pavlisen, preceded John in death.

Family and friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a procession to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Norquest Boulevard in Austintown, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.

Interment with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where John will be laid to rest next to his wife.

John’s family thanks the staff with All Caring Hospice, especially Carol and April, who were terrific, for the kindness shown and care given to Mr. Rapovy during his final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
