Jack attended Austintown Fitch High School, and proudly served for three years in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a Sergeant with the 41st Infantry Division, serving in the South Pacific, and saw extensive combat action. A highly-decorated veteran, Sgt. After his honorable discharge from the military, Mr. Eckenrode worked for 37 years for Hynes Industries, retiring in 1984.

Jack was a longtime member of St. Christine Church in Youngstown, and he was a member of the Chatterbox Club and of the Hynes Steel Breakfast Club.

Jack leaves his beloved wife of 69 years, Dolores Baytos Eckenrode, whom he married April 10, 1948; two daughters, Karlene (Larry) Fedor of New Middletown and Denise (James) Snyder of Wellington, Fla.; five grandchildren, Sara (Rick) Miller, Courtney (Justin) Flack, Nicholas J. Demko, Patrick Snyder, and Kelly (Jason) Cline; four great-grandchildren, Everett Flack, Mason Miller, Mackenzie Cline, and Madison Cline; a sister-in-law, Rosemarie Eckenrode of Boardman; and many nieces and nephews.
