AUSTINTOWN - John D. Anzelmo, 93, passed away Friday evening, Sept. 14, 2018, at Hospice House.

John was born June 24, 1925, in Youngstown, a son of the late Domenico and Antonina Alioto Anzelmo, and was a lifelong area resident.

He attended East High School, where he was a drum major in the band. John was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II with the 37th Tank Battalion, 4th Armored Division, and with the 48th Tank Battalion, 14th Armored Division, earning several medals for his courageous service.

After his honorable discharge from the military, John became a truck driver and worked for 40 years for General Electric, retiring in 1987.

Mr. Anzelmo was a member of Austintown Community Church and its Brunch Bunch. He served as an usher, helped with the monthly food giveaways and the church dinners, and he worked at the church’s Colonial Inn at the Canfield Fair.

John was also a member of American Legion Post No. 301 in Austintown, and was cub master with the Boy Scouts of America, Pack 84. He loved woodworking, bowling, and playing cards, and in his younger years he enjoyed dancing.

John leaves his wife of nearly 62 years, Delores Hinkson Anzelmo, whom he married Oct. 17, 1956; three children, Linda (James) Aeppli, Donald Anzelmo, and David Anzelmo, all of Austintown; five grandchildren, James (Lori) Aeppli, Jonathan (Kelsey) Aeppli, David, Alex, and Jordan Anzelmo; and four great-grandchildren, Dominic, Lizzie, Noah, and Kaley.
