CLEVELAND - Hulda I. Ramsey, 85, formerly of Youngstown’s west side, passed away peacefully late Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 4, 2017, at Fairview Hospital in Cleveland following a brief illness.

Hulda was born Sept. 18, 1932, in Templeton, Pa., a daughter of the late Daniel and Jesse McCain Henry, and came to this area in the early 1950s as a young woman. Following the death of her husband, she moved to Cleveland to be closer to family.

Mrs. Ramsey was a 1951 graduate of Union High School in Rimersburg, Pa., and spent her adult life raising and caring for her family. She also worked as a cashier for the West Side Sparkle Market on Mahoning Avenue for 10 years.

Hulda enjoyed bowling, and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Cavaliers. She loved spending time with her family, and with her dog, Lily.

Hulda leaves two sons, John (Karen) Ramsey of South Bend, Ind. and Lanny “Chris” Ramsey, with whom she made her home; a daughter, Donna Dawson of Chardon; two grandsons, Justin (Jennifer) Ramsey and Daniel (Samantha) Ramsey; and five great-grandchildren, Gretchen, Olivia, Maebe, Bryce, and Fox.

Mrs. Ramsey’s beloved husband of nearly 55 years, Orion I. Ramsey, whom she married Oct. 20, 1951, passed away July 2, 2006. Besides her husband, Hulda was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marsha Paulette Ramsey; two sisters, Jesse Rankin and Flora Priester; seven brothers, Conrad “Bud” Henry, and Jim, Floyd, Bob, Russell, Delbert, and Richard Henry; and a son-in-law, Kelly Dawson.

Family and friends may call from noon to 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 9, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, where funeral services will take place at 2 p.m.

Interment will follow at Brunstetter Cemetery in Austintown, where Hulda will be laid to rest next to her husband.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Ramsey’s name to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation through www.jdrf.org/donate
