YOUNGSTOWN - Frederick L. “Fred” Davies, 82, passed away peacefully early Thursday evening, Oct. 25, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with his family by his side.
Fred was born Aug. 22, 1936, in Lowellville, a son of Frederick and Ida Mae Davies, and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a 1954 graduate of Lowellville High School and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1954 until 1958 with the Military Police.
After his honorable discharge from the service, Fred worked for Conrail as a clerk and yardmaster for 39 years, retiring in December of 1998.
Mr. Davies was a former member and deacon of Christ Presbyterian Church in Youngstown. He was a member of the Saxon Club, and enjoyed fishing trips with his family and vacations to Myrtle Beach and to Florida. Fred also enjoyed riding trains, going to air shows, and watching World War II movies.
Fred leaves his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Keller Davies, formerly of Punxsutawney, Pa., whom he married Sept. 22, 1965; three children, Kim Dickey (Jack Tidswell) of Geneva, Alan Davies of Youngstown, and Brian Davies of North Canton; a grandson, Bradley Murphy (Danielle Lee) of Boardman; a great-granddaughter, Makayla Murphy; and his Monday night dinner / card club friends, Bill, Carol, Darwin, Len, and Mickey.
Fred will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
His parents and a sister, Elizabeth Jean Davies, preceded him in death.
Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where funeral services will take place at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Fred’s name to the American Cancer Society, or to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512.
Fred’s family thanks the staff with St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital’s CICU, especially nurses Lisa and Debbie, for the kindness shown and care given to Fred.
