YOUNGSTOWN – Frank J. Kivon, 79, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, April 15, 2017, at Briarfield Manor in Austintown.

Frank was born Sept. 24, 1937, in Youngstown, a son of the late Ladislav and Margaret Sirko Kivon, and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a 1955 graduate of Chaney High School and served in the United States Army as a Specialist 4th Class in the 101st Airborne Division from 1958 to 1961.

Mr. Kivon worked for Youngstown Sheet and Tube LTV Steel, Holy Name of Jesus Church, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Kinnick Funeral Home, and most recently, the Youngstown Board of Education for 18 years, retiring in 2008.

Frank was a member of the now Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Holy Name of Jesus Church.

He enjoyed walking and running in Mill Creek Park every day, until his legs no longer allowed him to do so. He was a devout Catholic and lived his life with traditional Christian values.

Frank leaves a sister, Margie (Donald) McMurray of Youngstown; four nieces and three nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

A sister, Valeria Erickson preceded Frank in death.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.

Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m., Thursday, April 20, at the funeral home, and will continue with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 613 N. Lakeview Ave., in Youngstown

Interment with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.

Frank’s family would like to thank the loving caregivers and friends at Briarfield Manor who helped make his stay comfortable, and especially the staff of Hospice of the Valley.
