Eugene M. "Gene" Testa

POLAND - Eugene M. Testa, 82, passed away Tuesday morning, July 3, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center, following an extended illness.

Eugene was born July 10, 1935, in Youngstown, a son of the late Michael and Florence DiCanio Testa, and was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Testa was a 1954 graduate of East High School, and he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps.

Gene worked for Metal Carbide in Boardman for 18 years, retiring in 1996. In his younger years, he owned and operated a carpet sales and installation business.

He was an active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Basilica in Youngstown, where he was a member of the parish’s annual festival committee. He volunteered for the parish spaghetti dinners, and was honored to carry the bread basket for the St. Anthony Feast Day celebration. Gene was also a member and past-president of the Quest for Life Support Group for COPD.

Mr. Testa loved his family dearly, and he enjoyed family get-togethers and spending time with them. A practical joker, he liked to tease others and he loved to tell jokes. Gene also enjoyed fishing, and he was well-known for his homemade breads and delicious pizzas.

He leaves his beloved wife of 56 years, Josephine Rulli Testa, whom he married Nov. 11, 1961; a daughter, Janet (Mike) Audi of Poland; a son, Michael (Staci) Testa of Poland; six grandchildren, Samantha Testa, Alexandria Testa, Michael Audi, Anthony Audi, Vincent Testa, and Justin Christoff; a sister-in-law, Theresa Testa of Boardman; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rocky and Dorothy Rulli of Austintown; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Four brothers, Louis, Richard, Carl, and Robert Testa; two sisters, Mary Ann Testa and Josephine Guerrieri; a sister-in-law, Sue Testa; a brother-in-law, Elmer Guerrieri; and a sister-in-law, Fran Dohar and her husband, John, are deceased.

Family and friends may call from 8:30 to 10 a.m., Saturday, July 7, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mt. Carmel Ave., Youngstown, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.

Arrangements were entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.

Gene’s family thanks Dr. Joseph Yurich, Dr. Igor Milosevic, Dr. Nick Proia and Chris, and the staff of the St. Elizabeth Boardman ICU, and the nurses and staff of the 6th Floor, for the kindness shown and care given to Gene and his family.
