YOUNGSTOWN - Elvira B. Lightner, 92, of the city’s west side, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, Dec. 11, 2018, at her home with her family by her side.
Elvira was born Nov. 24, 1926, in Washington County, Pa., a daughter of the late Samuel and Anna Misonic Mancuso. She came to this area with her family as a child, and was raised by her mother and stepfather, Ludwig Kunovich.
Elvira graduated from East High School, and in her younger years worked in the accounting department at the G.M. McKelvey Department Store in downtown Youngstown. Later, Mrs. Lightner attended Choffin Career Center and worked as an adult special education teacher at MRDD for 10 years, retiring in the 1980s.
She was a member of St. Brendan Church in Youngstown
Mrs. Lightner enjoyed the arts. She loved drawing, sketching, painting, dancing, and music. Polkas were her favorite. Elvira also truly enjoyed the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She leaves two daughters, Diane C. (Charles) Angelilli and Mary Susan (Samuel) Marcotullio, each of New Castle, Pa.; a son, Frank E. Lightner, with whom she shared her home; two grandchildren, Sarah (Matthew) Dado and Dr. Samuel (Dr. Nicole) Marcotullio; four great-grandchildren, Isabella, Samuel, Sophia, and Easton; and a sister, Dorothy Kraynik of Youngstown.
Her husband, Donald F. Lightner, whom she married in 1945; a brother, Eugene Mancuso; and a sister, Clara Blumetti, are deceased.
Family and friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 14, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m., Friday, at the funeral home, and will continue with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Brendan Church, 2800 Oakwood Ave., Youngstown.
Committal services will follow the Mass, and will be at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Elvira will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband.
Mrs. Lightner’s family thanks caregivers Mary, Lori, and Lisa, for the kindness shown and care given to Elvira during her illness.
In lieu of flowers, Elvira’s family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her name to the St. Brendan Church Memorial Fund.
