BOARDMAN - Elizabeth A. Butchko, 83, passed away early Saturday morning, Oct. 27, 2018, at her home following a brief illness.
Elizabeth, who was also known as “Betty” or “Liz,” was born June 8, 1935, in Victor, Colo., a daughter of Roy and Mildred Young Andrews. She was a graduate of Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs, and came to the Youngstown area as a young woman in 1955 when she married.
Betty had worked in downtown Youngstown for McKelvey’s and for Woolworth’s, for Wells’ in the McGuffey Plaza, and she worked at the Boardman Kmart for 17 years, retiring in 1990.
Liz was a former member of The First Baptist Church in Youngstown, where she was a Sunday School teacher, and was a more recent a member of Western Reserve Baptist Church. She enjoyed bowling for many years with the GCU League, and enjoyed watching her grandchildren. She was a member of the Kmart Retirees.
Betty leaves her husband of 63 years, Daniel J. Butchko, whom she married Feb. 28, 1955; six children, Diane Butchko of Strasburg, Va., James Butchko of Memphis, Tenn., Cynthia (Mike) Koran of Chicago, Frank (Pamela) Butchko of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Daniel Jr. (Lisa) Butchko of Boardman, and Charles (Jo) Butchko of Austintown; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, with a 12th on the way; a sister, Corrine Van Benschoten of Socrates, New York; and many nieces and nephews.
Her parents, two sisters, Juanita Patton and Merriam Lister, and a brother, Roy Andrews Jr., preceded her in death.
Family and friends may call from noon to 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 1, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, where a memorial service will take place at 2 p.m.
Interment will be at Belmont Park Cemetery in Liberty Township.
