AUSTINTOWN - Charles F. Leach Sr., 72, passed away early Friday evening, Feb. 1, 2019, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital after suffering a heart attack.
Charles, who was known to all as “Charlie” or “Chuck,” was born Jan. 7, 1947, in Youngstown, and was the son of the late Thomas A. Sr. and Thelma Waller Leach. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Patsy Romeo, and lived his life in this area.
He attended South High School and worked as an assembler for 30 years at the GM Plant in Lordstown, retiring in 1996. In his younger days, Chuck worked at a bicycle shop on Market Street.
Charlie enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he loved restoring his 1930 Model A Ford. Most of all, he truly enjoyed his grandchildren.
Mr. Leach leaves his wife of 52 years, Karen K. Lawrence Leach, whom he married Nov. 27, 1966; two sons, Charles F. Jr. (Carmela) Leach of Youngstown and David A. (Amy) Leach of Poland; four grandchildren, Amanda, Erica, David Jr., and Sarah; a brother, Bill Leach of Columbiana County; and a sister, Josephine Gay of Austintown.
An infant son, Patrick James Leach, and five siblings, Phoebe Reese, Thomas A. Leach Jr., George Leach, Priscilla Kidd, and Annie Grace, are deceased.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where a Memorial Service will take place at 3:30 p.m.
Chuck’s family thanks the staff in the ICU at St. Elizabeth Hospital for the kindness shown and care given to Mr. Leach and his family.
